Recasting a Pilot

Updated: Nov 22, 2017

Most people are pretty aware of the original pilot episode for Abracadavers. One of the interesting parts about creating the series all over from scratch is that the original pilot will become less and less relevant as the months go on.

Part of me doesn't mind this because it means we suddenly get this unique opportunity to fix our mistakes and build upon the story like we never would have imagined but the other side is that the show is going to be different.

The atmosphere that existed during our first go won't be there.

Don't get me wrong I'm not upset it's just interesting to consider.

The biggest change is the two of our lead characters needed to be replaced. So began the search for two new players to fit inside existing roles. I'll cut to the chase and say that we cast two excellent Alberta actors and although I can't tell you who they are quite yet I will say that the more I picture the show with them the more it feels like we're creating something new and excited. Newness has this sort of excitement inherent to it anyways but we've been sitting on the original pilot for over a year now and this is an important step to moving onwards.

Is this too philosophical? C'mon this is a comedy series for goodness sakes...

Anyways I'm so grateful to everyone that took interest in the series and came out to auditions and I'm so excited with our Paul and Allie and I can't wait to work with them to create this sucker. And as far as auditions go my only advice this (and consider it dubious because I am by no means a professional): go with your gut and don't leave yourself room to change your mind.
